Aluminium Industry Trade Fair in Istanbul

The “Deutsche Messe”, Hanover, launches new trade show: from 15 to 18 October 2009, aluexpo will open for the first time in Istanbul. This trade show is meant to mirror vertically all fields of modern aluminium technology, ranging from casting products and smelting as well as processing machines to services. Manufacturers and traders have their booths next to each other to establish new business contacts, according to Deutsche Messe AG. Organisers are planning around 5,000 square metres exhibition space in the IDTM Istanbul Expo Center.

The trade show is organised by the Hanover Fair Ankiros Fuarcilik A.& S., Ankara, a subsidiary of Deutsche Messe, Hanover. aluexpo is also supported by the Turkish Aluminium Industrialists’ Association (TALSAD). Many of the members of this strong industrial association, which represents roughly 75 percent of the Turkish aluminium market, will be among the exhibitors. With Assan Aluminium, the country’s major aluminium producer will also participate, as well as the other TALSAD members Cuhadaroglu Fenis, Arslan and Asas. The organiser says that the active participation by TALSAD members does not only grant large area occupancy rates but also valuable visitor contacts to international exhibitors. With Inductotherm Group (New Jersey/USA), the first market leader is said to have announced his participation.

aluexpo is the first trade show of this type in Turkey and represents an industry on the rise: annual market volume is around 3 billion USD, according to TALSAD. Turkish aluminium exports increased from 218,000 tons in 2004 to 381,000 tons in 2007. A total of more than 1,500 Turkish aluminium plants recorded an output of 750,000 tons in 2007. It is remarkable that only 10 percent of the raw aluminium processed in Turkey is smelted there – far less than in countries such as Russia, China or Canada. As a result, there is ample demand for imports in Turkey. This mix of a high share of imports and a dynamic development in aluminium processing makes Turkey so attractive to foreign companies – predestining it to become a venue for an international aluminium trade fair.

More or less all reputable Turkish companies aim to expand: Assan Aluminium wants to increase its capacity by as much as 70,000 tons this year. Cuhadaroglu Metal, Istanbul, expert for raw and anodized aluminium profiles, wants to raise its capacity by 60 percent, invest into research and development and increase its share of exports to 50 percent by 2010. The companies Cansan Alüminyum in Bursa have budgeted seven million USD to invest in a new foundry. And KRK Alüminyum from Konya intends to start operating two new, 680 and 100 ton extrusion presses as well as a new anodizing plant with a monthly capacity of 600 tons. Domestic demand is also picking up, as industries like the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, aviation industry, electrical engineering or packaging industry are on the growth path, too.

aluexpo is to take place in the heart of this dynamic Turkish market. At the same time, it is at the centre of the Eurasian economy providing a steppingstone for Western companies into the flourishing Gulf Region. The organiser concludes that aluexpo does not only attract professional visitors from Eurasia and Turkey, but also prospects from the Gulf States.

The modern Istanbul Expo Center offers short distances between halls and an excellent infrastructure with perfect traffic connections to the airport, as the organizer points out. More information on the trade fair under: aluexpo.com
