Buyers to Become Crisis Managers
“Many companies have had to completely overhaul their budgets for 2009 – quite a few sectors are facing a buyer’s market again, more or less over night,” said Dr Jürgen Marquard, President of the German Association Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics, in his opening speech before 2,000 participants at the “43rd BME Symposium Purchasing and Logistics” in Berlin, on 10 November. He went on to say that controllers had adjusted their expectations in terms of purchasing. 2009 would become the year of cost management – and thus of strategic purchasing. Read more
